First of all, it says it’s an “optimistic take” right in the title.

I don’t think this is magical thinking. This is strategic thinking. Regarding the left-wing reaction: When everyone feels comfortable in their homes, they tend not to go out and protest, but when that changes, they become irate. Bush 43 pissed off enough people to elect a political novice who pointed in the exact opposite direction. That’s not wishful thinking, that’s history. Regarding the right-wing strategy: The right has benefited from certain issues for decades, and they always stop short of actually “solving” things, because then they have to come up with new issues, and explain why they weren’t tackling them before. There aren’t enough true believers in power on the right to want to actually abolish abortion, and if they did, only certain states would suffer. If enough people in Georgia suffer, and have to come to New York for treatment, people will organize against the politicians who made things that way, make no mistake about it.

For the record, I’m not a fan of Sanders and his crowd. Any time I hear one of my Sanders-supporting friends bemoaning Trump, I respond with “But her emails!” They’re silly.

Again, I’m not suggesting people sit on their hands. What I’m positing is that if the worst case scenario happens, there will be a backlash. Even Ireland has legalized abortion. Ireland. The only place more Catholic than Ireland is Vatican City.
