This is why I try to be as explicit as possible about what matters at each stage of production, when I go into post with someone who doesn’t work in film. I often find that describing post production with this metaphor is helpful:

“Eggs, flour, and sugar are not cake. Editing is making the cake. You mak the cake in stages. The decorations go on last. We will edit this film in stages, and the earlier the stage, the less things like color, music, etc. matter. Focus on content until I tell you otherwise.”
