Yep. If you got it illegally, knowing you got it illegally, then any use of it is illegal and you are responsible. That's not just true of weapons, but all things. If I knowingly buy stolen TVs and sell them, I've broken the law, even though selling TVs isn't illegal. If I didn't know they were stolen, then that mitigates things a bit in court, but not by much.
